Alfresco Lane: A New Dining Experience In Tsim Sha Tsui East

Even if you haven’t heard of Alfresco Lane in TST East before, it’s very likely you’ve seen the area from across the harbour during the holiday season with its buildings (Tsim Sha Tsui Centre and Empire Centre) completely lit up with Christmas-themed lights. At the bottom of these buildings, lined up along the harbour, is where you’ll find Alfresco Lane; a row of great restaurants with outdoor seating. Besides offering diners a chance to eat outdoors, the restaurants are spacious and inviting (both of which we all know HK needs more of). Whether you’re looking for a new happy hour spot, the perfect place to see the light show and take in some views of the harbour, or are wanting to explore a side of the city you haven’t yet, Alfresco Lane has you covered.

Alfresco Lane

I know exactly what you’re thinking, “why would I want to travel all the way to TST East when I have the wonders of Central dining only a few steps away?” I’ll be honest, before I decided to venture over to Alfresco Lane, I thought the exact same thing – there was no way it would be worth the trip. Boy, was I wrong. Not only was it incredibly easy to get to (gotta love HK’s efficient transportation services), but the area gives off an “un-Hong Kong” atmosphere, making it feel like you’re miles away from the city center. Whether you venture over to TST East during the day or at night, you’ll be pleasantly surprised with what you’ll find, both in terms of the food and the environment.

After “restaurant hopping” through Alfresco Lane, I’ve pulled together the perfect itinerary for an evening of delicious drinks, fantastic food, and good vibes:

Brotzeit German Bier Bar & Restaurant

Nothing beats starting your night with good friends, a pint, and some tasty appetizers. You’ll feel like you’ve been transported to Germany with Brotzeit’s large picnic-style tables scattered throughout the restaurant occupied by similar beer-loving individuals .

Drinks – a traditional Hefe weissbier (wheat beer)
Food – Beetroot Carpaccio ($138 HKD) & Beef Tenderloin ($308 HKD)

Spasso Italian Bar & Restaurant

After you’re done dabbling in some German cuisine, make your way down Alfresco Lane to Spasso for dinner. Part of the DiVino group of restaurants, Spasso has some fantastic Italian cuisine and wine. They also have a good Sunday brunch if you fancy heading to this area on the weekend instead.

For the festive season, Spasso is offering a good-value Christmas Gourmet 5-Course Menu ($698 HKD)
Highlights from this menu include the Traditional Christmas Soup & the Cannelloni of Chestnut filled with Porcini Mushrooms

London House by Gordon Ramsay

For your last stop, hop on over to London House for a cocktail and dessert to finish the night off. London House succeeds in creating a very pub-like feel, perfect for socializing with friends over drinks. Plan on ending your evening here, since every night at around 10:00 pm you’ll be privy to great live music from local bands.
