Serving as one of the most visited cities in Germany, Munich might be a tad overwhelming to the traveler who has never taken to its busy streets, historic buildings, and rich culture. The Viktualienmarkt (or Victuals Market for us non-German speaking folk) is a highlight in Munich for travelers and locals alike. Open year-round, the market serves as an all-purpose stop for those on the hunt for anything from fresh fruit and vegetables to flowers, and beer gardens to local cuisine. Even if you’re not looking for anything in particular, the Victuals Market in Munich is worth a quick stroll through to take in the colorful sights and delicious smells!
Though relatively small and not as widely known as other cities in Germany, Heidelberg is a beautiful historic town just south of Frankfurt. It’s home to the oldest university in modern Germany, has a pretty badass castle overlooking the town, and, simply put, is just really beautiful. If that’s not reason enough to check it out, here are some of the things to do in Heidelberg that might just have you extending your stay!
Many of us know the big cities in Germany that tourists flock to when visiting the country; Berlin, Munich, Frankfurt, and Hamburg, just to name a few. Though these cities are all special in their own ways, there are so many other smaller cities in Germany that get overlooked. One of said cities is Heidelberg, known for its 14th century university (the oldest university in contemporary Germany), it’s picturesque cityscape by the River Neckar, which includes the Old Town and Heidelberg Castle; a not to be missed sight that offers visitors spectacular views of the town and beautiful ruins.
