How To Get To Jiufen From Taipei

August 24, 2016

If you’re able to spend more than a few days in Taipei, I would highly recommend spending some time in Jiufen. Known for its large selection of street food along Jiufen Old Street and its picturesque views of the surrounding area, Jiufen is a breath of fresh air. Here’s an outline on how to get to Jiufen; either take the train to Ruifang and then bus to Jiufen or you can take a bus directly from Taipei.

what to eat in jiufen

I ended up taking the train first, then bus, as I didn’t realize you could take a bus directly there. Either way, you’ll end up in Jiufen, but here is a quick layout of your two transportation options:

1. Train to Riufang, bus to Jiufen:

Head to Taipei Main Station and purchase a ticket to Riufang Station. Once out of Riufang Station go straight and turn left onto the street in front of you. Cross the street and walk down for about 5 minutes or so until you reach a bus station. We were slightly unsure of which bus to take, so we asked the bus driver before we hopped on (I believe it was Keelung Bus 788, but double check the schedule). Stay on the bus until the last stop, which will drop you off a few minutes away from Jiufen Old Street. The train ticket is around NT$60 and the bus ticket is around NT$20.

2. Bus directly to Jiufen from Taipei City

Make your way to  Zhongxiao Fuxing Station (at the intersection of the Brown and Blue MRT line) and go out Exit 2. Take Keelung Bus 1062 – it will likely say Jinguashin on the sign, but don’t worry, it’ll take you to Jiufen. The bus ticket is around NT$100.

Once there, enjoy exploring the beautiful streets, lovely scenery, and – of course – all the delicious food!

October 2018 update: I’ve just been informed that there’s a new bus route directly from Taipei to Jiufen – #965. The bus costs NT$90 one way and has many stops along some of the main MRT lines (Fuzhong, Banqiao, Ximen, Beimen, etc.).

Bus directly to Jiufen from Taipei City. Information incorrect about using exit 1 to bus stop. Use exit 2 instead to find the bus service 1062 bus stop.

      Hi Henry,
Thanks for the correction! I’ll change it in the article 🙂

          Hi Karen,
Gosh, I honestly can’t really remember. I think from my hotel to Jiufen it was around 1.5 hours or so.

Hi, how do you back to Zhongxiao Fuxing Station? You have to ride the Keelung Bus 1062 bus back? Is it stationed in Jiufen Old Street?

Hi! Are there options for cabs at night when you want to head back to Taipei? Would it be faster? Hope you can advise. Thanks!

      Hi Mae,
Hmm, I honestly can’t remember seeing any cabs in Jiufen, but I’m sure there must have been. Perhaps asking around at your hotel while you’re in Taipei would be best!

    Hi,

    How long it takes typically:

    1) Train to Ruifang the bus to Jiufen
    2) Bus directly to Jiufen

    Thanks.

Do you know what time is the last bus ride from Jiufen to Riufang? Where to board it?

And do you know what time is the last train ride from Riufang to Taipei?
I’d like to take the earliest train and bus to Riufang and Jiufen, and spend the whole day there. And go back to taipei and take maybe the 2nd to the last bus ride to Riufang and train ride back to Taipei.

    Hope you can help.

      Hi Meimei,
So sorry, but I can’t remember. Your best bet is to do a Google search and read some other blogs with that specific information. Best of luck!

This is really helpful. I was trying to look for a very clear instruction and I got you! I was just wondering if there’s a bus headed back to where you came from (Exit 2 of Zhongxiao Fuxing). Big Thanks!

This post is wrong. Took the 1062 today from Fuxing and it’s definitely still running. Also, beware all the taxi hustlers that tell you that it’s a 2 hour trip so that you hop in their cab(s). They’re out in force.

I certainly hope the transport info has not changed. I will be in Taiwan in Nov 2017 too and solo-travelling up to Jiufen is one of the plans. Miss that place a great deal.
