There’s nothing quite like a Japanese omakase dining experience, which is why I was excited to hear about the recent opening of SUSHI TAKI in Tsim Sha Tsui. Their dishes are crafted using authentic flavors, traditional methods, and seasonal ingredients. The restaurant is intimate, service is prompt, and the entire dining experience will absolutely captivate you. If you love and appreciate Japanese food, you should definitely pay a visit to SUSHI TAKI.
Having been to Maison Eight in TST for dinner when it first opened, I was excited to hear they recently launched a brunch menu (since I’m all about that eggs benny goodness). Maison Eight isn’t exactly in a convenient location (but that could just be me being stuck in my HK Island bubble), but the views from the dining area as well as the outdoor terrace make the trek worth your time. As for the food, Maison Eight brunch offers diners the option of one, two, or three-courses and attempts to please all with a good mix of typical brunch dishes, as well as a handful of fine dining dishes taken from their a la carte menu.
Hong Kong’s food and beverage industry is saturated with a variety of bars, restaurants, and clubs; upscale and casual. Maison Eight’s concept attempts to roll all three, and then some, into one sky-high location in Tsim Sha Tsui. Calling themselves an “all day, all night” destination, Maison Eight has four different areas designed to suit all needs: a French restaurant, “Esmé”, a ballroom, a cocktail bar opened by Salvatore Calabrese, and a private room, “Le Club 1829”, on the top floor. The following review of Maison Eight is based solely on my experience dining at the French restaurant, Esmé.
Beginning in London 12 years ago, Taste has now expanded to 22 different cities around the world. Lucky for us Hong Kongers, Taste is finally making its debut over the weekend of March 10 – 13. Taste of Hong Kong is best viewed as a food festival with a whole lot of class. The saying, “you can’t judge a book by its cover” rings true to the unassuming exterior of SAAM, despite Chef Patrick creating fabulous fine dining dishes in the kitchen. Tucked away on Graham Street in Central, it’s likely you’ve passed by SAAM multiple times and didn’t think much about it. Having recently revamped the menu and concept of the restaurant, SAAM is ready to make a big splash in Hong Kong’s dining scene with well thought-out tasting menus. The newest venture, after SAAM’s successful “Back to School” menu, is a kaiseiki inspired winter tasting menu highlighting seasonal ingredients and using various methods of preparation for each course.
