Le Meridien Cyberport: A little getaway on the south side of Hong Kong

April 11, 2019

Le Meridien Cyberport feels like it’s worlds away from the hustle of the city centre. Located on the south-west side of Hong Kong Island, Le Meridien Cyberport is a hotel that will tick off all the boxes for your upcoming trip or cheeky staycation. The staff at Le Meridien quickly greeted us upon arrival and efficiently checked us into our Deluxe Ocean Room sanctuary where we were greeted with a few more surprises (hello, prosecco and dessert!).

The Room

Our room was massive – you literally could have done gymnastics in there – and offered stunning views of the ocean, though the weather wasn’t exactly on our side that day. Oddly enough, I almost felt that the room was too big. There seemed to be a lot of ’empty’ space that could be utilised better – perhaps a large couch with a dining table, a funky hanging chair, art pieces, etc. The other thing I would change were the curtains. They were outdated and didn’t fit with the room. On a more positive note, the bed was insanely comfortable (I literally came back after breakfast and took a 2-hour nap), the view was perfect, and the delicious treats were a welcome touch.

The bathroom, specifically the bathtub, was definitely my favourite part of the room. Whenever I stay at a hotel, I lush over the bathtub; a luxury in Hong Kong thanks to our itty bitty flats. The bathtub at Le Meridien Cyberport was one of the more impressive ones I’ve been seen, mainly because of the floor to ceiling windows facing the ocean. Pair those views with a glass of bubbly and some soothing music, and you’ve got yourself a fantastic night in.

Facilities

One of the main features of Le Meridien Cyberport is their heated outdoor pool. I’ve spent the day here before in the summer and it’s a great way to cool down and escape the sickening humidity in Hong Kong. Unfortunately, it was a bit too cold during our stay to jump in, but we did see another brave soul go for a few laps. There are plenty of lounge chairs around the pool and they’ve recently added service ‘bells’ beside the loungers for guests to order food and drinks without having to actually get up. Le Meridien Cyberport also has a good-sized hotel gym along with five restaurants/bars serving different cuisines, and a free shuttle ride to and from Hong Kong Express (IFC). I found the staff here to be friendly and helpful; they were willing to go out of their way to ensure you had a great stay.

Dinner & Breakfast

We had dinner at Umami, the hotel’s Japanese restaurant located on the main floor. As we didn’t eat until quite late (around 8:30 pm), we had practically the entire restaurant to ourselves and the waitress was really helpful with recommending dishes for us. Everything we ordered was extremely fresh, beautifully presented, and tasted delicious. If you like Japanese food, I would definitely recommend checking Umami out for a meal – even if you’re not staying at the hotel.

A buffet breakfast was included in our stay, so we made our way down to stuff our faces (as you do at hotel breakfasts). The buffet spread had just about every option you could want. From make-your-own-noodles to dim sum, and an egg station to a good selection of hot and cold western options, there was nothing missing here. I ended up ordering poached eggs to make a DIY salmon and bacon eggs benedict (sadly, without the Hollandaise sauce), had a massive plate of fresh fruit, and then went back to try some noodles. There is ample seating throughout the dining area and a few tables outside, which would be really lovely on a warmer day.

Overall Thoughts

I really enjoyed my little weekend at Le Meridien Cyberport and would recommend a staycation here if you’re looking to get away from the city. If you’re visiting Hong Kong and don’t mind the commute to get into the city centre, then it could also be a great option. I lushed over the bathtub in our bathroom and thought the service here was lovely. That being said, I did feel like some parts of the hotel and room could use an upgrade to give the hotel a bit more life and bring it up to its full potential.
