Mojo Nomad Central: Modern minimalism in the heart of Hong Kong

February 10, 2019

This building was recently renovated, so you can expect funky decor and interesting artwork in the rooms and throughout Mojo Nomad Central. This hotel offers guests a range of room options; from single beds in a shared space to “Xtra Large” rooms with plenty of wiggle room, all with a thoughtful modern minimalist design. The hotel has a funky vibe to it, so it definitely attracts more of a “young adult” crowd, especially given their shared rooms (essentially, a fancy hostel).

The entranceway is filled with bright decor, fun wallpaper designs, and neon lights, making this space hard to miss. Mojo Nomad Central has wifi available in all rooms, access to their hotel gym, self-serve laundry machines, and a common area to work or chill out in.

The Room

I stayed in the “Medium” room, which didn’t leave as much wiggle room as I would have liked, but that’s Hong Kong for you. The main thing I liked about the room was the design. The decor was minimal, yet funky and helped to make the small space feel a bit bigger. The bathroom was a good size and the brand of toiletries offered were nice. There was a kettle, and complimentary tea and coffee for guests to enjoy tucked under the desk.

While the location of the hotel is fantastic (literally within walking distance of just about everything from Central – Sheung Wan – Sai Ying Pun), the room would definitely be a tight squeeze for two people. There weren’t many TV channel options and the blinds wouldn’t completely open, which I found to be a bit strange.

Te Quiero Mucho – Mojo Nomad’s Mexican Restaurant

I’ll cut straight to the point: Te Quiero Mucho completely exceeded my expectations. The vibe in the restaurant upstairs is laidback yet fun, and I love that there isn’t a wall facing the street, so you can enjoy a drink and some nibbles while doing some serious people-watching. We sampled a range of dishes from the menu, but I have to say that the guacamole completely stole the show. It was some of the best I’ve ever had and we couldn’t stop eating it. I would also highly recommend the roasted cauliflower with a mole sauce – a very unique dish that was executed perfectly.

You can’t leave TQM without ordering a dessert. I’m not a huge fan of churros, but the ones here were fantastic. If you’re looking for something a little different, get the “Chocolate Texture”. This dessert was a rich combination of chocolate crumble, chocolate mousse, and ice cream with fresh fruit.
